University of New England
ABOUT THE SITE
University of New England is located on a beautiful, remote site in Biddeford, Maine, where the Saco River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The Campus of UNE is on the coast of Maine, 20 miles south of Portland and 90 miles north of Boston.
ARRIVAL AND CHECK-IN
It is expected that attendees will arrive/check-in on Sunday between 2:00 pm & 6:00 p.m. Anyone arriving after the GRC office closes at 9:00 pm on Sunday must make alternative housing arrangements.
THE MEETING ROOM AND POSTER AREA
Science Sessions are held in the air-conditioned Harold Alfond Center for Health Sciences, Room 205.
Poster Sessions and Socials are held in the multi-purpose rooms located in the Campus Center.
ON-SITE HOUSING / FACILITIES
GRC participants are housed in residence halls which contain suite-style accommodations and full sized beds. The halls are not air-conditioned. Each suite features four single bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small living room and kitchenette. Linens, towels, and soap are provided in each room.
DINING AREA / MEALS
All meals are served in the air-conditioned Decary Dining Hall. Vegetarian entrees are available at all meals and other dietary restrictions or concerns can be accommodated if advanced notice (7 days) is provided.
INTERNET, PHONE AND COMPUTER ACCESS
High-speed Internet access via Ethernet cable is available in the resident halls (dorm bedrooms). A limited number of Ethernet cords are available for rental during the Sunday registration period, so please make arrangements to bring a personal Ethernet cord with you for your use. Wireless is only available in the lecture hall meeting rooms, select areas of the dining hall and select areas of the poster session areas.
HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY
The site is fully handicapped accessible.
ON-SITE RECREATION
The site has a full service Campus Center which includes an indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, indoor jogging track, saunas, racquetball court, volleyball court, basketball courts and full service weight room for your convenience while on campus. Use of the fitness facilities on-site are available by purchasing an access card from the front desk ($5/daily or $20/week) at the Campus Center during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. We apologize for the inconvenience, but cards will not be available on Sundays.
OTHER INFORMATION
Animals are not permitted on site.
All GRC facilities are smoke free.
The University of New England offers recreation information through their Activities Office, located on the ground floor of East Hall. The Activities Office is open from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily and has sporting equipment (including bike rentals), area attraction and afternoon excursion information.
The site at UNE offers Zipcars as an alternate transportation option for any of its attendees. Visit
